last-minute tips for a smooth shoot day

a step-by-step guide

Pro Tip: You will be looking & feeling great after your session, so make the most of it with a fun evening out.

Here's a quick reference guide so you come to your shoot feeling confident, prepared, and ready for an amazing time.

These are general tips and everything won't apply to you but there may be a tip (or two) here that really makes a difference.

the week before...

I. eat well & hydrate.

Don’t starve yourself. Photo shoots are physical work, so you want the proper fuel in your body. If it is already a part of your routine, I also recommend yoga and/or stretching as your session approaches to help with your body posture and holding poses.

ii. avoid certain foods.

Avoid items that can cause oily skin or swelling: red meat, alcohol, caffeine, spicy/salty foods, and drink lots of water.

III. EXFOLIATE & MOISTURIZE.

Moisturize all week long - so your skin is dewy and soft by shoot day...and pack your favorite face/body moisturizer in your bag. This simple tip is one of the most important things to remember.

four tips to remember

tip #1 What to do...

Stick with your favorite hairstyle, get a fresh mani/pedi and groom anything that needs it,  especially your eyebrows.

Facials, hair-coloring and tanning should be done at least a week before your shoot to ensure you have no adverse reaction to them.

tip #2 what not to do...

This is not the time for any dramatic changes that you haven't tried in the past.

Shave/wax legs and armpits if they will show in your photos but no waxing at least five days prior to avoid redness or irritation. No spray tans. They turn orange in photos and stain things.

Four tips to remember

tip #3 what to wear...

Wear comfortable loose-fitting clothes to your session (nothing that leaves elastic marks on your skin such as bra, panties, tight waistbands, etc.). A top/hoodie that buttons/zips up the front is good, so you can change without disturbing your hair.

You're also welcome to bring a robe and slippers if you’d like.

tip #4 the day before...

The day before your shoot is a great time to decompress with a mobile massage (I know a great lady), a nice relaxing bath, some yoga poses, etc. Whatever makes you feel centered and grounded. Hydrate and get plenty of rest before your shoot. Embrace the calm, confident person you want to see in these photos.

FAQ

How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?

We understand the anticipation of seeing your final photos. Our editing process typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the volume of images and the complexity of editing required. We prioritize quality and attention to detail to deliver exceptional images that exceed your expectations.

What happens if the weather is unfavorable on the day of an outdoor shoot?

If the weather doesn't cooperate on the day of an outdoor shoot, we can discuss alternatives such as rescheduling the session or finding an indoor location. We want to ensure the best possible outcome for your photos, and we're flexible in adapting to unforeseen circumstances.

the day of...

I. Set a leisurely pace.

Don’t plan too many other things around your session if possible. This is a major event; an experience. Let it be your focus.

ii. Don't skip eating.

Eat light but eat well! I can’t stress this enough. You will look better, be more focused, and have more energy throughout the shoot. Stay away from colored items that stain teeth and mouth.

III. Do one last check.

Do one last check of your wardrobe, shoes, accessories, props, etc. before heading to our session. One final run-through of your inventory can save you from forgetting an important item. Blow yourself a kiss in the mirror, grab your bags and lets go for it!

hair & makeup

if my glam team...

If my glam team is doing your hair and makeup, come with your hair and face clean, product-free (other than moisturizer) and ready to be glamorized.

When it comes to your body, remember to shave anything that needs shaving and to moisturize from head to toe!

if you're doing it...

If you are handling your hair and makeup, please arrive completely ready. Bring plenty of blotting paper/translucent powder (shine is not our friend) as well as eyeshadow/lipstick changes if you're shooting more than one look. You may also bring any hair tools needed to freshen up your look.
